Two kinds of Katy homes, two kinds of repair calls

Established communities: Cinco Ranch, Grand Lakes, Seven Meadows, Firethorne

In Katy's longer-established neighborhoods, many homes are on their second or third set of appliances, and some still have originals. That's where wear-and-tear repairs are most common: refrigerator evaporator fans and defrost parts, washer drain pumps and suspension, dryer belts and rollers, and weak gas oven igniters. It's also where the repair-or-replace question comes up most. Our approach is simple: we diagnose it, give you the repair price, and tell you honestly whether it's worth it for the age of the appliance. In Katy's newer master-planned communities, many appliances are only a few years old. Problems there are often about installation rather than worn parts: a dishwasher draining into a new disposal that still has its knockout plug, a washer that was never leveled, or an ice maker line that was kinked when the fridge was pushed into place. If your appliance is still covered by the manufacturer's warranty, check with the manufacturer first, since warranty work usually goes through their authorized network. Laundry that never stops

Katy is full of busy family households, and washers and dryers here do a lot of work. Heavy use wears out washer shocks, bearings and door locks and dryer belts and rollers faster. Many Katy two-story homes also have upstairs laundry rooms with long dryer vent runs, which collect lint and stretch drying times. Garage refrigerators and freezers

Plenty of Katy garages hold a second fridge or a chest freezer for sports drinks, bulk groceries and hunting season. Keep the condenser coils clean, leave space around the unit, and check your manual for its approved room-temperature range.
